You Should Sleep 7 Hrs / Night

How much sleep do you get each night? Apparently 7 hours is optimal. A Japanese study found that those who sleep eight hours a day had shorter lives than those who slept seven. Less than six will also give you a shorter life!

Now, I heard of another study like this and I wonder something.

Is it that sleeping 8+ hours affects your lifespan, or that a persons biology/mentality that make them sleep 8+ hours also ties in with their lifespan?

Good point. I suppose it must have been an observational study, so it would be hard to know for sure. But if you did a study on animals where you controlled the amount of sleep in each group and if it had the same effect on their relative lifespans, then it would be likely that the same applies to humans. So long as you chose a species with comparable sleeping habits!

Good point, it wouldn't *quite* be practical to do a study like that for humans ;) but it would be interesting to see what the results of such a study would be.
